Official ST-R4 downloads

Firmware, ready for the next scare.

Download the official firmware file, move it to the phone or laptop you will use beside the controller, then install it through the ST-R4’s own Wi-Fi interface.

Match the product family before flashing. Install only a .bin firmware file intended for the same Scream Tek product family as your controller. Scream Tek currently offers the ST-R4 only; future products may require different firmware.

Installation guide

Update over the controller’s own Wi-Fi.

No internet connection is required at the board. Download the file before joining the ST-R4 hotspot, because most phones will lose internet access while connected to it.

Do not interrupt the upload. Keep the browser page open and do not remove power until the ST-R4 says it is rebooting.
  1. 1

    Download the ST-R4 firmware

Download the required .bin from this page. Copy it onto the phone, tablet or laptop you will use beside the controller using AirDrop, Files, cloud storage or another suitable transfer method. Do not use a ZIP archive or source-code download.

  2. 2

Wake and join the ST-R4 hotspot

If Wi-Fi is hidden, press the physical Wi-Fi connect button to bring the network back. Join ST-R4-XXXX using the default password scream1234, unless the installer has changed the network details.

  3. 3

    Open Firmware update

Open http://192.168.4.1/, then go to Settings → Firmware update.

  4. 4

    Select and upload the .bin

Choose the downloaded ST-R4 firmware file and select Upload & update. Confirm that the file is a .bin intended for the ST-R4 product family.

  5. 5

    Wait for the reboot

Keep the page open until it reports that the controller is rebooting. Do not power-cycle the board during the upload or flash process.

  6. 6

    Reconnect and verify

Rejoin the ST-R4 hotspot after the reboot. Open the web interface and check About to confirm that the expected firmware version is shown.

Before updating

Protect the configuration and the show.

Use stable power

Carry out updates with a reliable supply and no risk of someone operating an emergency isolator or disconnecting the controller.

Update outside show time

Do not perform firmware work while an attraction is open or while props are armed. Test every connected effect after the update.

Match the product family

Install only official firmware intended for the same product family as your controller. At present, Scream Tek firmware downloads are for the ST-R4 only. Firmware for another product family may prevent the controller from starting normally.
